I typically try to put out a blog every week, however I decided it was best to put into practice what I speak about all the time, Self-Care. I’ve had a lot going on in my personal life between family medical things and starting a new job, this past week took a lot out of me.
There were so many times I looked at my planner and kept seeing the note on Monday “write a blog” and Tuesday “post a blog”. Everyday that ticked by was one more day without accomplishing those tasks.
You see, I’m a goal setter, I set a list and love checking all of the boxes off and smile with each check mark. The last year actually taught me that it’s ok if you can’t check the box off, chances are you’re preserving your mental health and sanity and those things are far less important than whatever the check box is.
But it’s weeks like this one that I have to remind myself that my self-care is important. Those around me, especially my family members, are walking a similar journey and if I’m not regulated my kids won’t be regulated either. I’ve had to remind my mom to take care of herself as well as she became the health caregiver of my dad.
Every reminder to her was a reminder to me.
Please take this as a reminder for yourself, the check boxes are great, but your mental health is a priority. Perhaps it’s the one check box we make sure we can check every single day.
