As I’ve been on my writing journey there’s a concept that I’ve started exploring: Emotional Recognition through Auditory Awareness. This concept’s foundation is on the idea that there is a sound associated with human emotion. As a classroom teacher and parent, I’ve learned how to help children recognize and rate emotions, but always related to zones of regulation. I believe in the value of the zone of regulation, but also in differentiation and giving students extra tools for emotional recognition.
Emotional Recognition through Auditory Awareness (ERAA) helps individuals connect a sound that may only be heard in their head, with a particular emotion. My book series, The Sea’s Symphony, was built around this concept for kids to learn another tool to emotional recognition. The characters in my books go on a journey through the ocean to discover what the sound they are hearing really means.
Their confident friend, Bella, is always around to help them and remind them to “Be brave enough to feel the sound”. I’m so excited to share with you a glimpse at my first book in The Sea’s Symphony, “Arnold’s Silent Heart”, which follows Arnold a little shark on a journey to figure out what the silence in his heart means.
I am so excited to share more about my concept, thoughts, ideas, and resources with you.
