“Mom, when we’re almost done I want to put in the last puzzle piece.”
Of course he did, for the last piece means completion, accomplishment. However, there was no last piece to put in… This puzzle has suffered the fate of having one missing piece. And as we sat there looking at the mostly completed puzzle, I thought about the path that got us there.
Frustration
Tears
Desire to give up
Perseverance
Deep breaths
Co-regulating
But we did it! We decided together to finish the puzzle. It could be so easy to let feelings of frustration creep in because this puzzle will never be complete. But just like this puzzle will never be fully completed, the work we do with our lives will never be fully complete. We may be happily achieving goals and completing various tasks, but there will always be a piece that continues impacting the life of someone else.
People are watching us journey through life, learning from us, seeing us accomplishing our goals despite failures. They are watching and learning from us so that as they continue putting the pieces of their own lives together, their completion will continue impacting others.
